RESTORATION STATUS

CUSTOMERS RESTORED: While doing damage assessment, JPS teams are using the opportunity to carry out repairs and restore service to some customers in the parishes with less severe damage:

  • As of Wednesday, November 19, 70% of customers are now with supply—mainly in Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Thomas, Clarendon, Manchester, Portland and morerecently St. Mary, St. James, St. Ann, and small sections of St. Elizabeth. 30% of customers remain without power, down from 77% at the start of restoration.

  • Work continues in Montego Bay, St. Ann and Falmouth to restore additional critical sites and economic zones.

  • Some western communities have been restored; however, widespread damage requires major network rebuilding, limiting our ability to provide restoration timelines. Further updates will follow as soon as possible.

 

  • Restoration of Hotels and Tourist Attractions:

    69% of hotels restored in St. Ann including Sandals Royal Plantation, Moon

    Palace and Couples San Souci.

    Royalton, Excellence Oyster Bay, RIU Aquarelle and Glistening Waters in

    Trelawny restored.

    Sandals White House, Villas on the stretch of Claude Clark Avenue and Hobbs

    Avenue and Sections of RIU Reggae

  • Cross Keys Health Centre in Manchester has been restored
  • JDF Marley Hill Repeater Site was restored

DAMAGE ASSESSMENT: Damage assessment has been completed on 100% of transmission lines and substations and 98% of distribution feeders.

Hundreds of Lineworkers from Jamaica and Overseas in Montego Bay Today – working to restore the city

(Kingston, November 16, 2025) Hundreds of lineworkers from Jamaica, the Caribbean and North America are presently in the city of Montego Bay, working to restore power to critical facilities and residential areas in the tourism capital. JPS made the report this morning, from its Regional Incident Command Centre in Montego Bay.

More regional support strengthens JPS restoration efforts

JPS has welcomed additional support from regional utility partners as the company continues extensive restoration work following the passage of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa.

A contingent of 24 line workers from the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) arrived in the island on Friday afternoon to join local crews in the field. Their arrival marks a significant reinforcement of the ongoing efforts to rebuild sections of the power grid network severely impacted by the hurricane.

Aerial patrol reveals significant damage to key power grid infrastructure.

JPS is reporting extensive damage to key infrastructure across its power delivery network, following the passage of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa. Coming out of an aerial tour of the most severely hit parishes, JPS President and CEO, Hugh Grant, commented on the magnitude of work that lies ahead for the power company:
